Nicola graduated from Edinburgh College of Art with a BA Hons and Masters Degree in Glass and Architectural Glass. She worked as resident artist in the Glass Department at Edinburgh College of Art before leaving to set up Make Studios in 2005. Please see here for an explanation of her work.

Make Workshops
Glassblowing Our experienced tutors will guide you through basic glassblowing processes and techniques.You will be led through the process of taking the glass from the furnace, shaping the glass and adding colour to create different patterns and decorative effects.
These one day workshops will be held on the last Saturday of each month. The class will begin at 10am with an introduction to basic techniques and practice. A group lunch will be provided.The afternoon session will comprise of lots of practice and experimentation ending at 4pm.
Workshops cost £130 per person and spaces are limited so please book early. All materials, kiln firing and safety equipment are included and will be provided. 50% deposit should be paid to secure your place.

Lampworking Lampworking
Our lampworking class will teach you the basic skills needed to enable you to create various bead shapes. Using a torch to melt the rods of brightly coloured glass we will explore the application of surface decoration and embellishments. You will create individual beads of your own style to take home with you on the day.

Ceramics Ceramics
Our ceramic / raku workshop begins by leading you through the process of throwing or handbuilding in the morning. In the afternoon you will be able to choose from a selection of hand thrown pots, tea bowls and tiles to glaze and then fire in the raku kiln.
Weekend workshops will be held on the last Saturday of each month. The class will begin at 10am. A group lunch will be provided.The afternoon session will comprise of lots of practice and experimentation with glazing and firings and will end at 4pm.

Glassblowing
Make Studios was set up in 2005 by ceramicist Gavin Burnett and glassmaker Nicola Cairns. Make studios is now the home of Rebott recycled glassware and Make Tea , porcelain tableware by Gavin Burnett.We are based in a converted textile mill in rural Fife and we currently have a ceramics workshop, a hot glass studio, several kilns for glass casting and ceramics and coldworking facilities. We offer workshops and tuition in glassblowing, lampworking and ceramics and also rent out our facilites to other artists. Please see our artists page for information on our resident artists.
